Should You Include a Ceremony to your Elopement in Paris?

Even if you can’t get married legally in France and you can only have a symbolic wedding ceremony, it’s worth to take this step. Let’s explore why. But before we do that, we’d like to mention that the ceremony itself is the most important moment of your elopement day. Why? Because that’s when you exchange vows.

Now, don’t take wedding vows superficially. Think about seriously. You are entering a “hopefully” lifelong relationship. What you put in your wedding vows, will be words for which you’ll have to live the rest of your life. It’s that important. Sometimes, those precise words can actually keep your marriage alive.

Let’s get back to the importance of the ceremony. We cover this in depth in our Paris elopement guide. However, the reasons to have a ceremony officiated by an officiant or celebrant are the following:

1. Meaningful Ceremony

The ceremony structure will be personalized to you. The officiant will try to get to now you beforehand, thus incorporating personal elements in the ceremony. This will will more meaningful than an official wedding ceremony.

2. More Emotional Depth

It is well known that wedding ceremony rituals can make this occasion feel more special, more significant. This way it will feel like it has more emotional depth.

3. Immersion in French Culture

If you’re interested in incorporating French customs (or even local Parisian customs) or traditions, an officiant can provide valuable insights.

The officiant for Jody and Mitch’s elopement was Naim Terrache Paris Celebrant.

All this being said, you can have a ceremony for your elopement in Paris without an officiant. This way it can be a more intimate experience and you can save costs on the officiant. It’s really up to you.

If you don’t know where to start with your search of a Paris officiant, explore our list of recommendations. We have worked with every Paris celebrant on the list and we warmly recommend them.
